First BIAB done today

Post by Colliefish » Sat Apr 09, 2016 4:28 pm

Well I finally did it.
Couple of things I need to be aware of.
Although I had a rolling boil, about 40 minutes in I partially covered the top and the boil became much more rolling without boiling over.

My mash lost quite a bit of temp despite me wrapping it in a body warmer and towels.

To conserve water I used a fermenting bin filled with water and bottles of frozen water and pump to run the wort chiller.
Wasn't quite as effective as I hoped and had to keep exchanging warm water for cold.

Below is my process.
Constructive criticism welcome :-).
(This was done while looking after my 11 month old as swmbo is away on a hen weekend)
Cheers
Mark

Looks good! Very meticulous in you notes....I cba myself.

Don't see the need to sparge with BIAB unless your pot is too small.

Cheers daf

Pot is only 33 litres. With the grain would be close I think. So I did the sparge to keep the mess down. Wasn't really much extra work. Just heated my 13 ish litre stock pot up while mash was taking place

Too true. I was toying with the idea of doing an IPA I got this evening but decided not to. Lol

Well good luck. Quite ambitious, but go for it.

The double ipa was my first biab.

Impatiently waiting for the 18th when it hits 2 weeks in the bottle for a "check of carbonation..."
