JBK Brewalong 28-29 May - Summer Quaffer
Re: JBK Brewalong 28-29 May - Summer Quaffer
Bottled 14 litres today, 7 litres with a Cascade hop tea, 7 litres with a Challenger hop tea. Bit if a cheat, but couldn't resist, the S04 seemed to have stripped a lot of the hop flavour out.

22.5 litres kegged last Thursday. Was be the first brew I've put in a corny, and will be the first served from new kegerator if I can get the shelves and taps fitted in time!
Nice and light, good hop level. Going to have to be careful mowing the lawn given that its come out at 4.8%.

I'm sorry, Monkey, that's much too clear. Looks all wrong to me.

MB,
Good looking Beer!
I have been reading conflicting reports on JBK that gelatin should only be used in kegs because it loosens the sediment in bottles.
Please keep me informed when you next open a bottle.
Any other brewers find gelatin in bottles a problem with the sediment?

8 days in the bottle, first taster, and it's good! Cleared well, gelatin not required. I'm really happy with this, the bitterness is just right and its very quenching. I feel like opening another.

Just pulled my first pint of this from the BE the other day. Looks and tastes great - just the right amount of body and good balance of bitterness. It went down a treat, and I'm looking forward to having a few more tonight.

I've not used it before when bottling, but according to Bertusbrewery....
"If you bottle your beer, rack the beer to a bottling bucket, and bottle away. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of yeast in solution to carbonate the bottles."
I suppose you could also add it directly to the bottle for a children's party...

Re: JBK Brewalong 28-29 May - Summer Quaffer
This brew has now been in the bottle for 6-7 weeks, so I should be able to answer a few questions about bottling and gelatin.
It has certainly carbonated very well and held a decent head until the last mouthful.
I haven't used Wilko/Nottingham yeast that much, but when I have, I have never found that it sticks to the bottom of the bottle like some people say.
My yeast sediment is probably slightly more unstable than some brews that I have made with different yeasts and no gelatin, but still perfectly acceptable and I can pour most of the beer from the bottle, so I wouldn't be put off from using the gelatin in this way again.
The brew itself is very decent, crystal clear when served at 10C and tastes very well balanced between the malt and hops, with the hops probably standing out slightly over the two.
The bitterness adds to the refreshing nature of this beer as well, so I'd say it's spot on for me!
Mine came out at 4.7%, which is probably a bit too strong in my book to be a session quaffer, but it's still a great summer bitter
Now time to plan another brew as I haven't brewed anything since this one
Cheers

Spectacular. It shows that cloudy beer is an excuse for poor technique. I'll bet that tastes as good as any unfined beer going.
