Kolsch revisited
After my aborted brew day on Friday when the flour content of the pilsner malt caused me a disaster.
Stuck sparge and the flour eventually tripped my heater and blackened my brew element .i
I decided to use lager malt and so far no problem.
I've made kolsch in the past and I've always use it so why I decided pilsner I've no idea
Simple recipie
4.5kg lager malt
500g munich
Wlp029
20g northern brewer 60.
Nothing flash but there's nowwhere to hide

Re: Kolsch revisited
I've got it at 17 c I find it perfect for this yeast despite the alleged lagering process people like to do with this yeast .

To avoid the flour problem buy a grain mill and crush your own. That way you will always have the correct grain bill.

I've never wanted the extra hassle of grinding grain and I've never had an issue in the past .....But after Friday I changed my mind and it's getting g serious consideration. To avoid the flour problem buy a grain mill and crush your own. That way you will always have the correct grain bill.

I'd second getting a mill. You can grind to suit your setup, and do things like malt conditioning. It adds 10 minutes to the process if you use a drill to drive the mill.

The drill is essential to the process however, and should be factored into your cost.

I went for a Bulldog one, mainly because it was cheap, and comes with a base, rather than relying on you making one for it. The assembly instructions that come with it are pretty poor, but it does the job. I've only had it for just over 12 months, so I can't comment on how long it'll last.alix101 wrote:Can anyone recommend a mill
