Cancelled brewday

Post by robbarwell » Sun Aug 18, 2019 4:28 pm

So up early this morning to brew a single hop Mosaic pale.
Set all brew kit up and ready...looked in HLT and had mould growing on inside.
Checked mashtun and it didn't look ace. So deep clean happening today with brew postponed until later in week.
Amazing amount of crud in pumps, valves and beerstone in fermenter.
Spent all day scrubbing, dismantling, cleaning then rebuilding, loads of PWB used then a rinse through with boiling water should sort everything.
Just shows that when you cleandown after a brew maybe it's better to take it all to bits and cleandown properly

I bet it was a bit of a let-down after planning for a brew, but at least it's a good job done!

Perfect decision.

No point in making beer in cruddy gear. If you'd gone ahead with the brewday all sorts of things could have gone wrong. Infection and off tastes being the ones which spring immediately to mind.

All the best for when you brew in a few days.

Cheers guys,
Ive just got my brewing mojo back after a long lay off, in part due to one or two disappointing brews. I'm determined that this one will be a good un, leaving nothing to chance.
Ive rebuilt everything, ran boiling water through the plate chiller, some crud came out of that too so would have been a hot spot for infection.
going to do a hot run through before brewing...so get the HLT upto temp then run through with everything without grain or hops in it. then drop the lot into the boiler and boil it to make sure theres no leaks and this will further clean the pipes and the nooks an crannies through out the kit

Hi Jim,
Ive dropped the beer into a pressure barrel to go onto a hand pull and a couple of cornies. Gassed the kegs up and its clear as a bell and lacing a glass beautifully already. Probably the best beer Ive ever brewed
