Brewer's Choice - Old Ale

Post by Buzz » Mon Oct 29, 2007 12:02 pm

Working from home today but thought Boll**ks to it, I'm gonna get a brew on.

No time for an AG but I have a Brewer's Choice kit - Old Ale - which should do the trick. At least I'll have plenty of time to get it sorted before the wife comes home and realises what I've been up to. I said we didn't have enough money for the new pair of boots she had her eye on so she'll be wanting to know how I managed to acquire the kit.

Not done this kit before but should be able to juggle the brew and get some work done. Fingers crossed.

Bloomin' nightmare to start with. Overfilled the kettle and got boiling water all over the kitchen side, pouring down the side of the cupboards then nearly slipped ar*se over tit on the wet floor. - when you're doing something you shouldn't, things always seem to go awry.

Anyhow, got cleared up and now have the teabag technology on the go. Better get some work done in the 20min intervals.

Tidied up the kitchen, all rubish in the outside bin, spray the room with plenty of Fabreeze so the wife doesn't notice the smell of the malt and hops when she comes in and job done.

Better get back to work...

Is that Spray Malt going in dry as opposed to, err... wet?

I've done kits for about seven years now and NEVER had a stuck fermentation but, this fellow has got stuck at 1017. Been there for the last two days. I'm going to give it a gentle stir and see if I can get the yeast turned on again. Wife reckons I have no chance

I'll give it another 48 hrs and if it's still stuck I'll resort to a some S-04 and yeast nutrient going in to get the job finished. Fingers crossed.
