Hundreåring

Hi, I am coming up for my 100th all-grain brew and decided to use Mangrove Jack's Voss Kveik yeast to ferment it. The name of the brew is Centenarian and the Norwegian translation is Hundreåring (according to Google Translate), so that is what I am going to call it.
This post is a little bit premature in respect of the brewday because it won't be brewed for at least a couple of weeks, but I wanted to start a post here in advance which I will update when the brewday arrives.
The original plan was a smash beer with all pale malt, but I had some Vienna and Munich needing used up so I decided to add some in to make it a bit more interesting. Hops are from "A Bushel of Hops".
The recipe is below:

Hundreåring
Dated:
Gyle Number: 100
Fermentable Color lb: oz Grams Ratio
Crisp Clear Choice P 5.5 EBC 9 lbs. 7.6 oz 4300 grams 81.1%
Vienna Malt 10.0 EBC 1 lbs. 1.6 oz 500 grams 9.4%
Weyermann Munich Malt I 14 EBC 1 lbs. 1.6 oz 500 grams 9.4%

Hop Variety Type Alpha Time lb: oz grams Ratio
Cascade (UK) Whole 3.59% 90 mins 0 lbs. 5.3 oz 150 grams 75%
Cascade (UK) Whole 3.59% 0 mins 0 lbs. 1.8 oz 50 grams 25%

Final Volume: 23 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.057
Final Gravity: 1.013
Alcohol Content: 5.7% ABV
Total Liquor: 37.1 Litres
Mash Liquor: 15.9 Litres
Mash Efficiency: 80.0 %
Bitterness: 49.50 EBU
Color: 12 EBC

A strange thing happened when I pasted the recipe from Beer Engine to the browser. It changed Cascade to Waterfall. I edited it in the post. Anyone had a similar issue before?

I've been looking for recipes to use up 500g of homegrown Cascade left from last years harvest - idealy with a simple grain bill.

Will be keeping an eye on this one!

Seems a lot, but low alpha. I brewed a similar beer (Durden Park recipe) using just pale malt and loads of Fuggles (no flameout hops though). Turned out really good. Took a little bit of time for the flavours to fully meld together, but surprisingly nice once they did.

Brewday today. Bad start to the mash when it overshot to 69C. I really need to get the PID dialled in. Recirculated until it dropped to 64C and left it at that to finish. Original plan was mash at 65C.
Pretty smooth from there on in though. Hit a pre-boil gravity of 1.044 which was 87.2% efficiency for the mash. Predicted 80% overall efficiency so shouldn't be too far out.
Boil is on with 150g of Cascade hops in at 90 mins. The smell is wonderful. :-D

Having problems posting pictures. keep getting this error message "Error parsing server response." Anyone know what the issue is and how to get round it? Cheers.

Yeast pitched at 35C! Very strange pitching at this temp. The fermenter feels warm to the touch! Somewhat unnerving to say the least!

Looking forward to seeing how this gets on. I’ve never used Kviek but just ordered some of the crossmyloofe strain.

Took my first gravity reading today after 3 full days of fermentation. Bubbling had stopped through the blow-off tube. Gravity is down to 1.018 from 1.057, so 68.4% apparent attenuation. I would expect a bit more from this yeast so it probably hasn't finished yet even with the extreme temperatures it has been fermented at.
Sample had a fairly noticeable orangey flavour. Not sure if this is from the hops, the yeast or a combination of both. I thought I could detect a slight funky smell from the sample, but it was subtle and maybe my mind playing tricks on me. Didn't come through in the taste.
I have switched off the heater now and will let it slowly reduce in temperature. Couldn't face leaving it at 35C, felt like I was cooking my beer!
The last time I brewed a beer at any where near these temperatures was my very first kit beer (Young's Harvest bitter with a kilo of table sugar). I fermented it in the immersion heater cupboard so not sure how high it got, but my first two pints gave me a splitting headache which took over a week to fully clear. Presumably something to do with fusel alcohol. Hopefully won't happen with this brew.

@leedsbrew do you know which strain Crossmyloof use. I believe each Kveik strain has different flavour profiles.

Drop them a line (crossmyloof@brew-meister.com) - always found them very helpful. Stevens your man.

Bottled today. FG was 1.015 against a predicted 1.013. That makes it 5.5% abv plus a point or two for priming. Sample tastes very promising.
