A couple of questions if I may, I like the way you did your yeast starter Ive been reading quite a bit about yeast starters and tried the one on John Palmers how to brew but he suggests making it over 4 days I tried it and it was a little impractical, is your method good for all kits including lager or more suited to ale ? Also the black bag great idea and it got me wondering what about my lager fermenting in the fridge will the fridge light kill it everytime I open the fridge door ??
Hiya Dave, cheers for the nice comments on the blog!
The yeast starter method is the one that is suggested on the Gervin English Ale yeast sachets, I have used this method with other yeasts (Muntons / Safale s04 etc) with good results, it gets the brew off to a good start and reduced lag time without being overly complicated. I've never brewed a lager

but I would have thought that it would be the same as the purpose is to get the fermentation started quickly so not specific to a type of brew. Some of the guys here experiment with yeast starterers and cultures but thats still a bit of a mystery to me at the moment.
With regard to lightstrike I don't black bag my kegs when they are in the fridge as far as I know it's sunlight and flourescent lights that cause problems.
All the best
