Bateman's XXXB 19/11/07

After a break of a few months & seeing as my stocks are getting low I'm having a go at this one today from Graham's BYOBRAAH.

21L brew length

In the mash tun

Pale malt 3080g
Crystal malt 510g
Black malt 18g

White sugar 640g (during boil)

90 min mash @ 66°C

Copper Hops

Challenger 76g

E.K.Goldings 14g last 15 mins

Safale S-04

I might go for a 60 minute boil so I can go & play 5-a-side later on but I think I'll still be too late. Shouldn't have had that lie in

Mash now underway, I'll hopefully get some pictures on if I can figure out how me new camera works :)

I was thinking of brewing this one because I've seen the commercial version's won some CBB awards. Problem is I've never tasted it. RogerTD, what do you think this one will taste like/what are you shooting for? Looks pretty malt with a bit of hop flavor?

Hope the brewday was great!

Thanks Chaps, the brew day (& the football) went OK, did have one brain out of gear moment when I was adding the mash liquor to the tun without checking the HLT level first & thinking 'Hmmm, I wonder how I'll know when there's 9 litres in there?' What a tool !

I reckon this is my 6th AG now Horden & yes, it does seem a bit more straight forward now with a lot less panic when something goes wrong.

Monk, your malty/slightly hoppy description is exactly what I'm after, it's one of the beers I always get when I get some bottles in from the shop. It should be the darkest brew I've done yet & certainly looked it in the trial jar.

For the record I finished up with ~22L @ 1.047, all tucked up in the garage.

Pictures to follow.
