J_P's Glasshouse Porter - Brew Evening (Wed 21/11)

Post by Wez » Tue Nov 20, 2007 10:22 pm

J_P recently sent me a fine bottle of his Glasshouse Porter which I posted a review for here, in that review I said that I would be brewing it myself, tomorrow night I will be 8) As a reminder this is the fine pint that I got to enjoy...

I have scaled & rounded JP's recipe up from 23L to 25L and replaced the First Gold with Challenger due to availability, this is what I'll be going with:

Grain Bill
4450gm Pale Malt (Fawcett MO) 74%
720gm Crystal Malt 12%
360gm Torrified Wheat 6%
300gm Chocolate Malt 4.5%
220gm Roasted Barley Grain 3.5%
Hop Schedule
40gm Challenger 6.8% (90 min) ~25 EBU
42gm Fuggles 4% (15 min) ~7 EBU
26gm Challenger 6.8%] (5 min) ~3 EBU

1 Whirlfloc at 10 min

Fermenting with Safale s04 (DFS stylee)

Target OG 1.053 at 75% BHE
25L Batch
90 min 68 deg C Mash
90 min Boil

Mrs Wez will be switching the boiler on as soon as she gets the nod by text to say that that i've left work 8)

Cheers for the recipe JP!

Cheers chaps

Got the mash on (18:20) but had 'mare getting the mash temp stable started with 13L water added grains then added too much cold water so added some hot water and ended up at 67.5 deg C - it's about 17L water now - 6kg grain so quite a thin mash, will that be ok? (not much I can do now anyway)

(Smells great btw)

Have a good one mate 8)

I'm a bit gutted as I've just checked my corni and there's barely any of it left  - I guess it'll be Hooky street again for me tonight after I've kegged / bottled my Lucky7.

Bonus I've just smelled what's for tea - Curry :=P
