First Extract brew

So my burco should be arriving soon and im looking for extract brew #1.
I'm looking at the hobgoblin clone from the recipes sticky and have a few questions.
It gives a brew length and boil volume but can i just boil the lot or does this throw out the extraction from the hops? if it does is there a rule of thumb on how to alter the hop boil?
Secondly i would like to use DME rather than LME so presumably i can knock it down from 3.48kg to just under 3kg of extract?.

I would suggest that you download Graham Wheeler's beer engine from:

http://www.practicalbrewing.co.uk/calcu ... eerengine/

This will allow you to play with the recipe to your heart's content, and it's totally free (many thanks to Graham).
