Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
Hi delaCuerva,
I would add some kind of grain to steep. I think the Cara-pils will add feel but not much flavour. If you steep some grains (normally crystal malt) then you will get more taste.
Also, do you really need three different hops? I would go for two of them to save on cost and simpilicty. Others might disagree with me though...
Good luck, Spuds

Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
Are cascade hops ok for bittering? I thought they were more of a late hop.
Are they tried and tested recipes? If so then give one a whirl and see what it's like. If they aren't, i'd just use one or two hop types so you can get a feel for them. Your recipes will be hard to tweek with so many variables, perhaps.
I went off piste on only my second bew and it wasn't worth it. Then i had 20l of the stuff and didn't quite fancy it.

mmmmmmmmmhhh...i wrote this recipe...don't know if it's a good stuff, anyway i think Cascade can be used for bittering without problem...

Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
I am getting a little confused as you mention mash efficiency but you are doing an extra brew? Are you mashing the grains or using canned LME? Have you already done the brew? The recipe seems OK. Again I would steep some grains as it make a big difference to flavour.deLaCuerva wrote:so what about this one?!?
Like DaveyT,I was once too eager and tried to throw everything in for my own brew and ended up with 23 litres of beer I didnt want. However, I have tried this recipe http://www.brewuk.co.uk/store/recipes-summer-ale and added some honey to it. It was really good so I recommend trying it.
Good luck,
Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
well..the mash efficency is written by the program via default, i still havenìt done the brew and i totally agree about steeping some crystal grain to give a little more taste. thank for your advices!potatoes wrote:I am getting a little confused as you mention mash efficiency but you are doing an extra brew? Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
Nice one gov, go for it!
Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
If you want a blonde ale, don't add much in the way of Crystal malt as it will darken it too much.
Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
i know man..but in Italy i can onkly find the 200 L crystal..i know it will darken too much..but..patience, hope it will have a nice taste!Bayerd wrote:If you want a blonde ale, don't add much in the way of Crystal malt as it will darken it too much.

Re: Summer Ale recipe suggestion
I'm with potatoes- give it a go, dude.
I'd go for 10% wheat rather than so much. Sorry to be pedantic... The colour will change more with more wheat too. It's worth losing some lightness to crystal, though. The wheat will add enough in small quantities like the crystal.
Also, If in doubt you could always make 12 litres and not 20. That way you only need 23 friends to get rid of a duff brew and not 47.
Seriously, though, just do it. And tell us how it goes.
