Recipes for Extract Brewing

Post by buntyfarmer » Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:13 pm

Right, so have done a few kits brews in the last 6 months and now feel I'm back to the stage I was at some 20 years ago. Now about to embark on some Extract brewing. Got some fuggles hops and some extra dark malt extract from brewwers droop in bristol. Appears I need some chocolate malt also to steep . I can't seem to find quantities anywhere?

Also I have porter recipes that list 4kb amber malt, 4ltr water, 250g liquorice, 120g goldings hops, 250g black treacle, 30g top fermenter yeast, 120g chillies, 4g ginger root and a red pepper. Gives mash temp, time, sparge volume and hop boiling time. Is this a Extract recipe?

Cheers

Sounds like a mash recipe as amber malt needs to be mashed also you mention sparge volume so it's definitely a full mash.

Ok cheers.

Any ideas on where to find a recipe for the extract brew? Apologies if I am being very slow.

If I am not allowed to post a link to another forum I apologise in advance, but buntyfarmer I would recommend you travel to here ==> http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewt ... =30&t=2672. It's a "how to" guide for an extract stout. I followed it for my first extract brew (scaling the quantites to suit my equipment and needs) and it came out better than I could have hoped.

Cheers!

I won't tell anyone if you don't. Looks great, thank you oz11.

Will try this out after a trip to Lidl. Might try popping some ginger and chilli in one the second run.
