I have made a few GWs Old Father Timer over the last
year or so as it goes down well with family and friends.
I use Protafloc last 10 mins of boil-primary for 2 weeks
then into a cornie with Isinglass then force carbonate
and leave for 5+ weeks.
The only reason I Protafloc and Isinglass was on advice
given to me a while back from an old hand at brewing.
My question. Is the advice I am following correct and
is the use of both finings necessary?
Thanks guys.
Have I got this right? Fining
Re: Have I got this right? Fining
Personally, I would only use isinglass if the beer does not clear by it self.
What I would do is primary for a week or so, then transfer to secondary FV for the second week. This will give the beer time to clear naturally. If it's not clear after the secondary then you can add the isinglass. Better to keg it when it's clear then fining in the keg I think.

Thanks Ollie
As I mentioned I am following advice and it has worked
so far with all of the OFT I have made being bright come
serving time. I was just sitting here this morning wondering
what other methods members used for clearing their brews
and wether I was doing correctly. I am planning a Bitburger
Pils clone at the weekend for swmbo and she will want it
crystal.... wish me luck!
