Fuggles or Williamette

Post by badgerdan » Sun Sep 11, 2011 7:52 pm

I'm just using up my last lot of extract before i go to AG and have just realised I'm a bit short on Williamette.

Originally it's 45g Challenger (60mins) - 20g Williamette (15mins) - 20g Williamette (20mins aroma steep) - 20g Williamette (3 day dry hop)

I've only got enough for the first lot and half for the steep. Shall I use some Fuggles with the remaining williamette for the steep and fuggles for the dry hop or vise versa?

Smell 'em? Which do you prefer aroma-wise? I'd do a 50/50 f/w for aroma steep and dry hop to get a bit of both... Or do 14 willamette + 6g fuggles then 13g willamette and 13g willamette for other additions - will still have an effect.

Willamette was bred from fuggles and is fairly close so subbing one for the other should work fine.
I'm just here for the beer.

Cheers Rookie. Yeah had found out after doing it that Fuggles were similar so that was all good, the only thing now is I forgot I'd put them in already so they've been in for 6 days instead of the 3 recommended :/ Oh well, should hopefully still taste good.

I'm going to grow some hops starting next spring. I definately plan on one being goldings and am thinking about willamette for the second. I'm pretty sure willamette was developed to grow better in the U S.
I'm just here for the beer.
