Hi,
I'm looking to brew a summer/lager style beer and have come up with the following recipe, but was hoping someone more knowledgable than myself will give me an idea as to whether it will work.
3 kg Pale DME
50 g Citra (90 minute boil)
20 g Bobek ( last 10 minutes of boil)
10 g Hallertauer ( 40 minutes post boil)
Any ideas how this will turn out?
Many Thanks
Rich

Re: Extract recipe thoughts
I'm a novice to all this just doing my first calculations around AAU/IBU etc, but 50g of Citra for 90 minutes sounds undrinkably bitter to me.
The Citra I have is 14.5% AA, which in your recipe below would yield something like 90 IBU, so you might want to only use a quarter of that Citra for the full 90.

Ingredients: Water, Barley, Hops, Yeast, Seaweed, Blood, Sweat, The swim bladder of a sturgeon, My enemies tears, Scenes of mild peril, An otter's handbag and Riboflavin.

+1 to that - way too bitter for me also. With just pale extract there would not be any balance to the beer. Personally I would be aiming for IBUs in the mid 20s or so with plenty of hops late on for flavour.
But it depends - what are you trying to aim for? - Hoppiness? Bitterness?

I personally think it's excessive in the way that Citra is 50% hallertauer anyway...I would personally use Citra for bittering and flavouring (30 mins,) then lob in the Bobek for aroma, bobek smell fricken great and have a lot of grassy flavour.
I'd go as low as 12-15 IBU myself too, but that's just me. Summer beers say high aroma, low bitterness imo...floral type aroma, fruity or clean bittering.
Wheat is used extensively in summer beers, have you thought about maybe incorporating some for head?

Right, i have amended my recipe based on the comments above.
3 kg Pale DME
30g Northern brewer ( 30 mins)
30g Bobek (10 mins)
20g Hallertau hersbrucker (10 mins)
15g dried Elderflower ( 10 mins)
Dry hopping with 10g Bobek and 10g Hallertau after 1 week in fermenter.
Calcs reckon this will come out at about 28 IBU's
