Splitting the wort?

Post by geobotsar » Sat Apr 21, 2012 6:11 am

Hi everyone, i am doing a malt extract recipe next week and i have a couple of questions, appreciate it if someone could help.
1. Would it be ok to split the wort into 2 brewpots, 10 minutes before the 60 min boil, so i could add spices and herbs to half of the beer?
2. Is it ok to place the beer into 2 FVs? Each FV is 25L and will only have 10L of beer, therefore a lot of space on top and possibility for oxidation? would it be better if i put it in 3-4 of those 7L plastic bottles that are used in water fridges?

Splitting the wort is fine, just make sure each batch has had it's intended boiling time.

Small quantities in large FVs are fine too. The CO2 from fermentation will displace the air. If it is something you will be doing regularly you can get 10L and 15L versions of the Youngs buckets for not much dosh.
