I have just finished my first extract brew and it's now in the fermentor. I have a couple of questions though.
I have a hop strainer on my boiler tap but bits were still getting through so I put a sieve underneath the tap to catch the debris, this worked but my wort is still cloudy, is this ok?
2nd question.
I am thinking of not bothering with the tap next time and just pouring the wort from the boiler into the fermentor through a muslin or something like that, is this ok?
Cheers
Nick

"Relx, don't worry, have a home brew."
Any of that stuff that ends up in the fermentor will drop to the bottom fairly quickly with the spent yeast. Just be carefull when you rack into the bottling bucket, or keg.
I'm just here for the beer.

Don't fret about it.
Check out the "Basic Brewing" podcast. Recently, they did a collaborative experiment with BYO magazine and found that most participants preferred the beer which had been fermented with all of the cold break material in the FV. It's been well known for a long time that some cold break material in the FV can actually aid fermentation.
