Lager , carbonation/bottle conditioning
A couple of weeks back I bottled a batch of dark lager . I gave each 500ml bottle 1 coopers carbonation sweet and an extra 1/4 tsp of sugar which has previously given me a fairly reasonable result , this time however the carbonation is very poor. I'm wondering if I've buggered up at this point . The first "lager" I made was really a lager flavoured beer using an ale yeast and all fermenting , carbonation etc was done at room temp (19-20c) , this latest batch was done with a true lager yeast so fermented at 10-15c , come bottling time I chucked in the previously mentioned sugars and let the stuff come up to room temp for a couple of days before dropping back down to the 10-15c mark then hoying it in a 4-5c fridge when it started to clear .I'd assumed that with it being the same yeast doing the work that I'd need to drop it back down to the original fermenting temperature . Have I sent the yeast to sleep therefore not giving it a chance to carbonate fully ? Do I need to give it a fair bit longer to give it time to do its stuff , do I need to bring it back up to room temp to kick the thing back to life ?
And they wonder why we drink ...

Hi.
If you bring it back to room temp for a couple of weeks then chuck it back in the cold for 3 or 4 weeks you should be cool.

If you like lager and brewing your own, then fridges will slowly but surely creep their way into your life. Although carbonation needs a little warmth.
Leave them for a week at least before checking them. Don't get them too warm 18c-20c (don't know how to make my computer do a tiny circle
) will be good. 18c is very good.
A while back I started decanting into a jerry can for secondary and storing it at around 3C. Then after a month give it 2 or 3 days at room temp, batch prime and bottle. Allow them to carb then back in the cooler for a week or two.
