Home brewing beer recipe

Post by Snipersunset » Thu Apr 02, 2015 10:31 pm

Hi guys,

Just looking through home brew beer at the recipes and wanted to know how I can make a 20+ ltr brew from these recipes with me only having a 19 ltr pot? They all say steep in 27 ltr and that's not going to work in a 19 ltr pot. Do I just follow the recipe but in the small pot or do I need to do something else? And don't say go all grain as SWMBO is checking finances as we speak!!

Cheers

I'd scale down to suit the gear you have, but you might try brewing short and diluting at bottling time. Use a more dilute than usual sugar solution for priming.

You either do half batches, brew a stronger wort then liquor back, or do a partial mash and liquor back

I've got a 20l boiler and have to use extra pots to get up to 18/20l or so that I want. I can get 14l at most with the 20l boiler on its own after hop/trub loss etc.

So if I brewed to the recipe in half the amount of water, making the wort concentrated, and then top up the brew length in the fermenter would that work? And would I add half the dme at the start and half near the end so it doesn't become to thick and burn?

Yes.... you can do that. I did this many times with a 15 litre pot. Made full brew lengths of some great beers. Up the weights of your hop additions though because of the higher Gravity wort in the boil.

I did a how to for another forum but I won't link here.

Google "how to do a partial boil small pot extract brew" and you should find it....
