In that case just multiply the quantities given for my 10 litre batch by 2.3. OSH is a bit trickier because I use Graham Wheeler's recipe and I'd be infringing his copyright if I posted it.gratefuldave54 wrote:Sorry should have said. I'll be using DME. Cheers.

Thanks for that OSB. I'll get the ingredients this week and let you know how I get on.
Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
Well the son in law and I took the plunge into extract brewing today. Used Badger's Basic Bitter recipe stepped up to 23 litres. Everything went fine apart from not having a wort cooler. had to stand the FV in a bath of cold water but got there in the end. It smelt divine. Pitched S-04 yeast at 25c and achieved an OG of 1045 so got high hopes for this. Was surprised at how easy it all was. Got G. Wheelers book too so OSH clone next week. Cheers and thanks for the recipe - Dave.
Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
Yet another late addition to a long post but I have to agree that this is just what I need to get into extract brewing, especially as until I can persuade the SWMBO to move to a bigger house (need a garage to facilitate a boiler etc), I only have an 8 litre boiling pot.daveyk wrote:I know I'm coming in at the end of a long conversation. But thanks VERY much for the no-nonsense recipe and advice. This is exactly what I need to try the next step on from kit brewing.
Coopers stout and Woodford Wherry kits are great but I cannot wait to try this one. Ingredients are on the way.
Another 'cheers' to OSB

Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
Well what a disaster. Decided to bottle half and keg the rest so we could share it. The beer in the bottles is fine but the kegged beer turned into vinegar. I assume it's because I didn't purge the air out of the keg. This must be more important when the keg is only half full. Ah well, you live and learn. Now for my next brew......
Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
This recipe is now bubbling away in a 15l FV
Bit disappointed at the 1.032 OG but still tasted/smelt really good.

Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
Well I have tried this and I am currently at the bottling stage. Had an OG1044 and an FG1009, quite happy with the colour and taste although after WK1 when putting into the secondary i had a sip and it did taste a little vinigeray, but 5 days later this seems to have disappeared.
Question I have: I bottled yesterday and have left them at fermenting temp (approx 22c) today approx 24hrs in I noticed a white creamy sediment on the bottom is this normal?

Yup, that's the dormant yeast settling out after they've munched on the extra sugar you put in to condition it
If you used standard house sugar then the yeast will have no problem eating it up quickly. I had a small amount after 12 hours when I used the Coopers carbonation drops, they're just dextrose and sugar mixed together.

Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
Many thanks for that, also would you recommend leaving the bottles at about 22c for a week or so, or is this a bit high. ?
Will the dorment yeast at the bottom stay there now ?
Cheers
Mark.

Re: Request for a simple one hop brew recipe
Hehe I'm trying to find out the right temp right now for mine but I think they're supposed to be left at 'room temperature' for a week or two then stored somewhere cooler, like a cellar to carry on it's conditioning.
The yeast will stay there now it's settled, unless disturbed
Just remember when you pour the beer to do it slowly so as to not disturb the yeast at the bottom; It can give the beer a nasty taste if you swirl it around and drink it (although I've drank a coopers lager from the bottle while running to a bus and didn't taste anything bad, but I was already drunk by then)
