out of date LME

I have 5kg of lme left in a 15kg drum..its out of date since august 09 ! dont know what i was thinking buying it but anyway. There is a small bit of mold on the top in 1 or 2 tiny patches. is this still ok to use as either added to coopers stout kits or an extract stout ? i added 1.3kg of it to a coopers dark ale 2 weeks ago and im not sure if i can taste it ( from FV) or not as ive not done that kit in years. I did boil it for 25 mins hard prior to adding. ? it be a shame to dump it but if its going to make a bad beer then id rather let it go in peace......

Personally I'd throw it out. The mold may only be present in small amounts, but what about the spores? What about the toxins produced by the mold? To my mind it's just not worth the risk.

5Kg LME is a small price to pay for your health.

I reckon you should ask the legendary Ditch from the kit forum. I reckon you'd be able to brew enough stout to see you right through the summer with that lot.
Don't throw it!! Some one will buy it. Stick it on ebay. Sell it as genuine blue vein spray malt and double the price.

the coopers dark matured out perfect ....its all gone and im still alive....i think i will use it away just making sure to boil the life out of it every time...else i will do up an extract batch with it all and hop the daylight out of it...
