converting LME to DME.

Post by smokey989 » Thu Jul 08, 2010 12:52 pm

If anyone could clarify this for me it would be greqatly appreciated.

On the Muntons Webiste it states that LME consist of 20% water, if this is the case then would i be right in saying that if a hefe-weizen recipe calls for 6lb of wheat LME could i directly replace this with 4.8lb DME wheat spraymalt (.8*6=4.8).

The reason i ask is i want to create a wheat which is light as possible and from what i've read this won't be possible via LME

Thanks all.

i was under the impression that if a recepie called for 1Kg DME then that must be replaced with 1.5Kg if using LME. logic would then suggest its the same in reverse, Ie if your recepie calls for 1.5Kg of LME then replace it with 1Kg of DME!!

info off this page here!! http://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/ingredients_extract.htm

Cheers Bungle. I've just done my first brew(Hoegaarden clone) with Liquid extract, noob error doh, colour is way off. Will be using wheat DME on my next project, Hefe-weizen. YUM!!!

Thanks guys. Looking forward to doing a hefe-weizen already and my first brew isn't even done yet. Got to say my hoegaarden clone is more dunkel than white, doh!! Encouraging that this shouldn't affect the taste too much though, will let you know how it goes.

DME to LME use 20%more LME than the recipe called for

LME to DME use 17%less DME than the recipe called for
