Yes, it's the volumes that are different...not the weights.

Yes, in weight the oz and pounds are the same....
The difference in a US pint and a UK or Imperial pint is that a US Pint is (only) 16 fluid ounces not 20 fluid ounces.
Resulting in a knock on effect, that a US gallon is approx 3.8 litres instead of the 4.54 litre imperial gallon
Aparently this came about in an attempt to simplyfy the somewhat confusing imperial system.... Although the europeans already used a simplified wieghts and measures system - the metric system...
But of course being American they didn't want any of that 'old world' nonsense!

The Imperial pint only came about in 1824 to standardise the different measures in various parts of the UK, so the Americans would have kept the old English pint, the volume of a pound of water, hence 16 fluid ounces. So, in a way, the UK moved away from the US, much as we did when we decided to rename aluminun as aluminium.

Its true that the British standardised their measurements and abolished all other existing versions of the Gallon in 1824 and standardised on the Imperial gallon.
The US didn't standardise its system until the 1850's but used bushels and winchesters (and other such 'medieval' measures) in paralel with gallons and quarts until standardisation.
So its entirely possible that the US never adopted the 'Imperial' (20 fl. oz pints) Gallon/system at all and standardised their gallon using the volume of a winchester (in cubic inches) as the basis for their soem what 'lite' version of the gallon....
Its a whole pint short! you got to admit you'd feel a bit cheated out of that extra pint...

It's all very confusing. Like the way Plymouth and the West Country used to have its own time zone, 15 mins behind London. Which was all fine and dandy till they built the railway.

Some people say that the Isle of Man is in some respects stuck in the late 60's....
Maybe it is, but not in a bad way...
I know that the 'troy da laar' (time enough) attitude really winds up Londoners...
It can be frustrating at times, but then I remember to relax and go with it....
Time enough for ANOTHER pint!
