leaking S30 cylinder

Post by Rich_B » Thu Oct 21, 2010 7:41 pm

Hi guys,

I've just transferred my first brew into my king keg ready for it to mature (after helpful advice from this forum!). I've injected CO2 using the s30 cylinder, but I've noticed that there's still gas escaping from the cylinder itself. I've run it under the hot tap and it's slowed down, but when i immerse the tip in water it's still releasing a bubble of gas about every second.

Is there anything I can do or have I got a dud cylinder?

Cheers,

Rich

It's fairly common. Just find a handy corner of a table/bench/something and just tap the centre pin of the cylinder against it to seat it.

I often have the same trouble with my cylinders and have found that if I apply a bit of pressure on the pin with my thumb and lift my thumb of as soon as you hear gas escaping then dunk it in warm water again it seems to stop it,dont know why but it seems to work for me.Another point is are you only giving a one second blast of gas when you use it?,as to long a blast of gas makes the problem worse.
I buy my grain & hops from here http://www.homebrewkent.co.uk/

I agree with FUBAR, though several short bursts are better than one long one. I have only had this happen when I tried to pressurise a keg from "empty" in one go. Since then I have always used a couple of 1/2 second bursts and I've had no problems.
