bakers LME

Post by bad Lee » Wed Nov 10, 2010 3:55 am

Back again with strange questions
So I have found another supplier of ME liquid, and for now will assume that it is diastic.
Is there a quick test I can do to find out?
I need a recipe too :D
I have 24gr of Cascade and 24gr of Pride of Ring Wood and would like to make a 23-25 litre batch.
Any ideas?
Cheers,Lee.

Hi Lee

I've never used bakers LME before but hopefully it should do the trick.

If your're not sure what the result will be, why not brew a smaller batch. You've not mentioned any other ingredients like crystal malt so why not try a recipe like a summer ale that just uses pale liquid malt extract. Graham Wheeler's recipes for from Exmoor Gold and Summer Lightning seem very popular with extract brewers. You can find the recipes in his book, Brew your own real ales at home

You could easily substitute the hops that you have for those specified though I have no idea what a combination of POR and cascade would result in. One thing I do know is that that there is only one way to find out and I wouldn't hesitate in getting started.

What yeast will you be using?

Keep us informed as to your progress

Cheers

Jason

I am looking for a recipe as i write
I have a few packs of Morgans ale yeast from Australia, which a relative sent over for me.
I will go for it,maybe do two separate brews, one with the POR and one with Cascade.
As soon as it's in,will update.
Cheers,
Lee.

Lee

Try using 3kg of liquid extract and about 26g of POR (assuming they are around 8.5%AA and boio for 90 mins.
I would use your cascade for flavour (10g for example) and boil for the final 10 minutes. You could add a couple more grams post boil too.

It's loosely based on a tried and trusted recipe (just not using those hops) so touch wood, it should all go well for you.

Let us know how it all goes

Bakers and brewers DME from Muntons are the same thing, I'm not sure if the same is true of bakers LME.
