Light effect

Post by MacDuck » Thu Nov 11, 2010 1:52 pm

Hi All

Don't see a 'General' forum so posting here as I am brewing an extract.

My first brew in about 2.5 years so hope it goes well.

I am in York, England so it is pretty cool and I need to use some method to bring my fermenting location up to temp. To do this I have a small bedside lamp on... My question is, does the light from a lamp affect the beer? I know sunlight does but don't know about lamp light.

Thanks

It's the UV in sunlight that causes the problem so an ordinary incandescent bulb will be fine.
You do get UV from fluorescent lights and also from many low energy lamps (which are basically fluorescent too) but they would be rubbish as a heat source anyway!
