How cold is too cold?

Post by chairmanmaw » Wed Nov 24, 2010 8:09 am

Good Morning all,

I have a general question about brewing lager, or to be precise, conditioning it. I have had various brews on the go over the last few months and they are all now conditioning in my shed. With this cold weather we are having, it started me thinking; how cold is too cold?

I have 30 PET bottles in a powered fridge in my shed and two cornies (soon to be four) on top of the shed.

Over night the coldest it's been is 7/8 degrees in my shed. I have a max/min thermometer to monitor the temp. Inside my shed its slightly colder. 4/5 degrees.

I guess I haved answered my question in that unless it drops below 4/5 degrees I dont have anything to worry about, but does anyone know for certain and can give any pointers/best practices?

Cheers!

Maw

I think some searches here will probabably give you ideas.
From advice given in the past, I now clear/condition some of my (non-lager) beers at -1.0C, others at 2.5C.
