5 lbs of crystal malt seems a bit excessive are you sure you have got your measurements correct :?:

Hi deLaCuerva

I brewed this one but I changed the hops to use what I had at the time. Used Northern Brewer for bittering and Styrian Goldings for flavour. From my brewing notes I used Safale S4 but had a stuck fermentation - which I rescued with more Safale S4. That's not to fault the recipe though.

My brewing notes record the following:
3kg Brewferm Liquid Dark Malt Extract
250g crystal malt
112g Black Malt
27g Northern Brewer hop pellets (1 hour)
13g Styrian Goldings hop pellets (10 minutes)
3g Cascade hop pellets (2 minutes)
1 Safale S4 yeast

Overall, it wasn't a bad pint but I would probably substitute 1.5kg of dark liquid extract with amber for a slightly lighter taste.
However, this is more a personal preference. For a brown ale, it's a good recipe.

Give it a go and have fun with it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Cheers

Jason

Hi deLaCuerva

I'd go with the original recipe first and see how you find it. I'm sure you will be impressed and more than happy with the results. Charlie Papazian knows his stuff (his Palace bitter is also a nice recipe).

If you are not quite happy with it, tweaking it is half the fun)

Good luck with your brew and keep us posted on your progress

Cheers
