Made my first recipe brew for about 25 years 5 days ago, pitched the dry nottingham yeast into the brew and switched on the immersion heater at about 20c, after checking the fermentation about 12hrs later I found the heater hadnt worked and the brew was at about 14c, the heater is now working and the brew is about 20c but fermentation is very slow, it is working but not how I remember it, have I killed it or can I ressurect it with some more yeast??
Thanks in anticipation Glyn.

Glyn i see no reason why the yeast wont start getting active as they warm up, my packet yeast sit happily in the fridge until brew day so should be fine, just be aware there have been some issues with notty recently with very long lag times, if you can get your hands on a back up yeast such as s04 Saturday morning just in case it will act as a comfort blanket for you, but i dont think you need to worry by the sound of it its just the notty playing up . Are you returning to AG after 25 yrs ? Whats your recipe

Thanks Pas,
Will add another one tomorrow.
Started to brew again after 25 years rest, not AG though,I found I got very good results with extract.
My first brew is a bitter i got from an internet site somewhere, a best Bitter. I will be more adventurous if this one turns out OK, Did a Norfolk Wherry from a kit that was very succesful and got the bug back!!
1.8kg light malt extract
1kg brewing sugar
110g fuggles hops
260g crystal malt
Nottingham yeast

Before wasting money on another yeast sachet, just let the temperature come up and give the yeast time to wake up. You won't have killed the yeast with the cold, just put it to sleep.
Yes, Nottingham can be a bit awkward but don't worry too much, it will probably be fine. It's still too early to tell.
Relax and enjoy.

I think it's OK,I just tested the SG and it's dropped from 1.032 to 1.010 so near to kegging, just had a taste and it seems suprisingly good!!
