Got a batch of beer i've just kegged up.
I made a fairly schoolboy erro of using pale malt instead of crystal malt as a additional grain. Soaked it @ 65degrees for, oh, around 30 minutes or so (As i was steeping, not mashing - so i thought - I allowed the water to heat in the pan, so the 30 minutes is from when it reached 65)
That was my first error.
I then boiled a bag of youngs goldings hop for 60 minutes, along with a tin of coopers amber and a tin of coopers pale.
this is all done in a 2.5 gallon pot, so once added to the FV and topped up to 5 gallons, I left for several hours before adding yeast (Muntons Gold). The FV was still slightly warm to the touch, but as it was 2am and i wanted to go to bed...
Anyway, OG 1055, FG 1016 After 2 weeks i've moved it to my KingKeg, along with 5teaspoons of priming (25gs approx) . This is where my second (or possible 3rd/4th) mistake crept in. Didn't do the tap up strong enoguh, so no pressure built. Discovered that this morning when the tap didn't do anything, and on firing a sparkler (btw, these are many years old, I assume CO2s inert so that shouldn't be an issue though) discovered air was happily coming straight out the tap seal... so quickly lid off, tighten tap (it keeps snapping back when over tight, but think i've got it close enough now!), and lid back on. 15 mintues later the tap's working, so it sounds good to me.
Anyway, the beer doesn't taste great. Quite yeasty, and not at all clear (though after just 3 days in the keg i'd not expect clearness) - plus none of the bitterness i was hopign for. As most my other brews have been drinkable within a week, I'm a bit concerned my various faux-pas have ruined this one?
So, can I expect an improvement in taste (Specifically will the yeastyness go away - it tastes like the dregs i got out a firkin once), or should I just bite the bullet and fire up the toilet?
