When to add campden tablet

Post by juuunx2 » Mon Apr 16, 2012 4:50 pm

Hi all

I am thinking of trying out a campden tablet in the water instead of using mineral water in my next 23L brew. It will save me around £5.50 I think. Every little helps after all I did take up brewing to save buying beere in the shops! When do I add the tablet? Do I have to leave the water for a while after?

Also I heard rumors that is possible to add something to the brew to reduce chill haze. Anyone got any ideas, if so what is it? How much do I add and when do I add it?

Sorry for all the questions but it is only my second extract brew

regards all

Mart

Crush up half a tablet and put it into your water before brewing. The reaction is supposedly instant, but you'll at least need to give it a good mix around.

For chill haze I'm not sure if finings like Irish Moss works on chill haze.

I would be interested to know what level of chlorine means you should use a tablet? Mine is supposedly 0.11 mgcl/l on average according to a recent water report and I use tap water with no issues (I think!)

I'd like to know too - my rule so far has been that if I can smell the chlorination in drinking water, it'll probably appear in my beer too.
