I had a pint of Single Hop Cascade from the Marstons single hop special editions at the pub at the weekend and thought it was one of the nicest beers I have had in a while. This got me thinking, why don't I try and brew this at home.
I am a very new extract brewer (I have only one under my belt) so I was wondering whether anyone has got a good extract recipe for a cascade single hop brew?
Cheers
Nick

Re: Single Hop Brew with Cascade
This will make a hoppy American-style pale ale, around 5.1%
I've never used Cascade as a bittering hop (60min addition) but 40g should give you around 25-40 IBU.
0.34kg Crystal 30
2.6 kg Dry Light Extract
40g Cascade 60 min.
25g Cascade 15 min.
25g Cascade 5 min.
edit: mistake in amount of DME

Thanks Paddy
My only question is that 1.5kg of DME seems quite low for a 40 pint batch, most recipes I see use around 2.5kg-3kg of DME?

Re: Single Hop Brew with Cascade
Shit man, sorry!
I do my extract additions in two steps, with a late addition at 15 mins, and I only gave you the second one! I use 2.6kg of DME (1.1kg + 1.5kg). Sorry for the confusion.
Personally, I wouldn't use all that lovely Cascade as a bittering addition. Use a smaller amount of a traditional bittering hop and leave the Cascade for those late additions.

I'd be tempted to chuck a load more in near the end than 5g - it's a delicious hop

I'd use centennial or columbus to bitter.Paddy Bubbles wrote:Personally, I wouldn't use all that lovely Cascade as a bittering addition. Use a smaller amount of a traditional bittering hop and leave the Cascade for those late additions.
I'm just here for the beer.
