Bottling after barrelling

Post by Brewski » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:50 pm

Hi,

I have a number of barrels on the go at various stages of conditioning from 2 weeks to 8 weeks. Can I tap them off into bottles at any stage if I add some sugar or only will really work on the younger beers rather than older ones?

Thanks

Mark

The longer it's been in the barrel, the less likely the yeast will respond, but you can add a little yeast as you bottle
no palate, no patience.

Drinking - of course

Prob no need to add sugar if the barrel is under pressure. If the barrels are cold this would be even better again as the co2 is absorbed in the beer at lower temps (Pretty sure anyway!) If you do bottle with no sugar and it doesn't work out, you could then turn to this method... never fails: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=39661&hilit=+syringe
