How long in FV?

Post by juuunx2 » Sun Jan 13, 2013 3:52 pm

Hi everyone

I have made a bit of a boo boo and forgot that I should be bottling my latest brew which is ready to bottle. It has already been in FV for two weeks. However I am unable to bottle it until next week which will be three weeks. Will it still be ok?
The only thing is that it is a spring ale (bit early I know) and it has been dry hopped also. Will this matter?

Would appreciate any comments

regards

Mart

Three weeks in the fermenter will not be a problem.

With regards the dry hops - how much is in there and how long will they have been in once you get round to bottling next week? If a lot of hops are left in the beer for too long some people have found they can impart a grassiness. I suppose if you are concerned and they are in a hop bag then you could use a sanitised implement to fish them out...

HI Jimp

Been in there around a week so not too long. Would normally bottle today but havn't enought time to sterilise bottles etc, might do it one night in week if not next week. 10g of goldings in there. Thanks for the advice mate

That sounds ok - 10g of goldings in for a couple of weeks will not cause you any problems.

Sounds fine for me too. I normally dry hop my IPAs for 10 days in the FV following the fermentation, which tends to mean around 3 weeks in the FV in total, as a matter of course. Your hop aroma will start to dissipate before flavour or bitterness though, so keep an eye on how its tasting - it may be better for early rather than later spring.

Cheers Kev, really appreciate the advice. It is unlikely to last until spring though!
