Hi All
i'm thinking of brewing my first lager, is it possible to get liquid or dried lager/pilsner malt extract? or would i have to use light malt extract?
has anyone tried to make a dark lager? i was thinking about steeping some chocolate malt, or am i making a mistake there?
cheers guys

Hi Malc
The only available pilsner malt extract I know of is Weyermann's pilsner extract. It also contains carapils - a very light crystal malt designed to aid head retention.
You can find it at http://themaltmiller.co.uk/index.php?_a ... ductId=429
It's expensive stuff but it's good quality and should be slightly lighter than regular malt extract.
Cheers

Hi fuggled mind
yes i was just looking at that it comes in 4kg containers, do you know if it's more concentrated than normal, or would you use all 4kg for a 40pt brew? or split and add some pale malt extract? i suppose if i use all 4kg and the sg is very high i could split in to another fv.
thanks i think i'll give it a go.

If I remember rightly (it was a good while ago), Weyermann state that it's for 25L.malc wrote:Hi fuggled mind

Your latter idea is not a bad one, if the SG is too high, spit to another FV.
Good luck with the brewing

Use some caraffa or midnight wheat instead of chocolate and a bit of caramunich to get a schwarz beer: a yummy dark lager.malc wrote:Hi All
