No boil?

How many of you extract brewers do no, or very short, boil batches.

How are you going to extract the alpha acids?

The plan is to heat 2 liters to near boiling, mix in some extract and steep some hops for 20-30 minutes which will extract some alpha acids. I'll then mix in the rest of the extracts and top off with 6 liters of ice cold water to get it down to yeast pitching temperature. After 2 weeks I'll dry hop.

Hmmm, won’t you just spend more on hops to get the IBU’s you need?

What’s the reason you don’t want to boil?

I'm in the process of converting an old school bus into a mini house and only have an extension cord for electricity and can't boil right now.
Going by the current trend of using mostly post boil hops for bittering I should end up with a decent pint

If you are stuck for IBU, isomerised hop extract works great.

Your ibu calcs go a bit funny when you try to make partial boils just for bittering.

I'm not all that worried about ibu numbers. I'm looking more for flavor and aroma.
At my previous place I used to grow hops.
In last year's crop of goldings I used a bunch of grapefruit juice in place of some of the irrigation water.
When I dried them I got a nice grapefruit aroma; I'm hoping that carries over to the beer.

Probably best to drink it quick. I doubt it'll keep well.

But you were probably planning to do that anyway. :)

How quick depends on how well my wife does during her upcoming open heart surgery.

Sorry to hear your wife's having health problems, and I hope all goes well for her (and you). I know first hand how stressful it is unfortunately.

Thank you.
She's due in the O R in about ten and a half hours.
You can guess about how many hours of sleep I'll be getting tonight.
