I'm in Leicester which has hard water around ph of 7-7.3, which I'm led to believe is not ideal for lager. You can get RO water from an aquarium shop for 10p a litre and start with that.
Don't worry it can be done, just need a few careful considerations to get the best out of it

A dortmunder should be brewed with harder water than other lagers.
If you can find a spot close to 60f to ferment you could use steam beer yeast to good results. I made a couple of lagers with Wyeast 2112 before I had good temperature controll that turned out pretty good.
I'm just here for the beer.

I don't think I've tried that lager, I will look it up when I get closer to brewing it.

Here's
one by fellow JBKer Bribie. Its an Australian Lager, done by BIAB (not that it would make any difference) and his entry just placed runner up in Pale Lagers at the Australian national championships on the weekend, so its a good 'un.

Thanks RdeV
For the hops a good substitute for Pride of Ringwood is Cluster (the hops used in XXXX from Queensland, you may remember the "fake" 4% version brewed in the UK until a few years ago by Carlsberg).
Re the Dortmunder, if that's the lager that AdyG is unfamiliar with, grab a few bottles of DAB (Dortmunder Actien Brauerie) - absolutely glorious and very reminiscent of the Beers that were common in Germany back in the 1970s before the dreaded Pils Swills took over.

Hi Beammeup ( r u a star trek fan? Just can't get enough of T'Pau's glorious backside on Enterprise....I digress)
Like you I have not made any lager yet but I'm tempted to try Dave Line's Kronenbourg SG 1052. I only drink the stuff when it's really hot but as it should be brewed when it's very cold I thought I'd have a go. In case you haven't got the book try :-
Lager malt 3.6Kg (Length 25L). Mash at 55C for 30 mins and 66C for 90 mins. Sparge to collect 20L at 85C
Flaked maize 625g
Honey 500g
Goldings x 90mins 30g
Saaz x 90 mins 40g
Saaz x 0 mins soak 15mins 10g
Lager yeast after top up to 25L. Ferment at recommended yeast temp.
I'll post the results when it's drinking. Cheers from TBD1
