Wow lads let's not fall out over this, I asked the Mods to move my post to the BIAB section as I do not want to offend anyone, I just thought I was being helpful in telling folk how easy BIAB was and what better brews I produced after 25 years of kits, I never said kits were crap infact i said they were good but my first ever BIAB the bag was so much better than any kit I had done in those 25 years that I wanted to tell the kit guys how good it is...that's all.
plus my 5 gallons brews now cost about £6 to £10 instead of £20+

Actually, i found the perspective quite useful as i look at biab as the next Progression in my little brewing world. If the OP has found joy at doing biab then he has every right to tell the kit boys, the AG boys and anyone he bumps into! Skills are transferrable boys n gurls, thats how we advance!! :)

(still havent got the foggiest where to start in biab anyway!!!) :)

Cheers, we are all brewers at the end of the day and this is a great forum for exchanging different views, kits have there place and I am actually supping a geordie mild kit with the addition of 1kg malt and 550gms of treacle which is going down very well after 12 months in bottle :D

Study the forum - gain some knowledge - honestly you can all learn all you need to know here - whatever your method. Sorry but I need to say all methods are valid whatever your needs. I'm not narrow minded - despite what other people say - read my other posts.

Ian, all I can say is do it...read all the threads on your first BIAB and go for it, I was a little nervous at my first brew but it is so easy that I wondered what all the fuss was a about, I bought a 50 litre stock pot from the malt miller for £65 and just used all the equipment I had anyway, I got 25kg of malt for £20 which does about 7- 5 gallon brews plus your hops and other grains which brings the total to about £7 a brew :D
Try it and post your reaction.

Re the comments about this topic being moved to the Brew in a Bag Forum.

The topic is about BIAB and it was moved to the BIAB forum. What on earth is the problem with that??

I think the OP was making a fair point and think Ditch's reaction was a little heavy handed to say the least - anyone would think the Ayatollah had walked into Dublin Cathedral during mass trying to convert the congregation! [-X (and before I get a reaction I am not assuming Ditch is catholic or even religious its just the image that sprung to mind)

The vast majority of us started out as kit brewers and if the kits weren't there then there would be a hell of a lot less homebrewers of any sort. We all brew beer and do it to fit our own circumstances. Personally I BIAB because I like the whole process from putting a recipe together and spending time on the brewday. But when I don't have time I still have the equipment to do an quick extract brew or put together an even quicker kit with modifications (i.e. Ditch's Stout 8) )

It's a sad day in an Internet community where someone is enthusiastically sharing with people and gets shot down so badly and accused of all sorts. The agenda there is not the OP's.

I too think that some of the replys to the original post were a bit harsh, fortunately the OP seems to be of a sound enought character to handle a bit of cyber bullying. Had he been of a more gentle disposition he may have been put off posting another thread on Jim's for life, and we would have lost a member of the brewing forum community who possibly had lots to offer.

At work we have a name for these sort of people and we call them "email terrorists" they seem to enjoy stirring up trouble before standing back and watching the fallout.
