Is the following correct?
I am making for the first time an Oat stout, and would appreciate anyone checking I have understood, how to use Specialist grains, and oats correctly.
I steep the specialist grains to make a 'tea' and put aside
I make a thin porridge of the oats and put aside
Bring Mash water up to temp
Add in Porridge and Grain
After a mashing add 'tea' to Pre boil Wort and boil in the normal way
Is this correct?
Oat Stout method, advice please
Re: Oat Stout method, advice please
I've made two successful oat stouts using BIAB. In both cases I used the standard method. No porridges or teas. Just Heat the water to strike temp and stick all the grains in together. Remove the bag after the mash and boil as usual.
Good luck

Re: Oat Stout method, advice please
Check the oats, if they are quick oats (like less than 6mins or so to make porridge) Then you can just put them in the mash with the other grains/base malt
You don't need to steep any grains if you are doing a full mash, just put them in with your base malt.
What's your recipe?

Wow, great news, thank you. I was over complicating it. I Love BIAB, one pot, one bag = great beer
Thank you again
I will let you know how it goes

Agree you don't need to do anything different to make a biab oatmeal stout it's easy and should be delicious, i've made a number of these. the sam smith oatmeal stout recipe from the clone brews book is a good recipe.killer wrote:I've made two successful oat stouts using BIAB.
