Bought stainless steel colander...but it's painted?

Bought a stainless steel colander to put over the element of the boiler to protect the bag from burning. Like a complete loaf though I've only just noticed the base of it is coloured black - would this come off in a boil or should it be ok?

Wouldn't a small SS sieve have done the job?

I'd not use it unless it was raw stainless.

Get the sander out ?

I think it's unlikely that whatever is under the paint is stainless.

The wife has a new black colander then. I'm nicking the stainless unpainted one. ;)
