OK last topic before I do this first BIAB tomorrow ,
beersmith 2 is saying i need 33.6ltrs to produce 19lts into the fermentor , are my calcs right ?
diameter is 33.5cm x 45cm deep , so for every cm I should have 1.052ltrs , which should leave 13cm of headspace in kettle ???
Am so confused I have opened a home-brew
cheers Danny
Headspace vs Volume
Re: Headspace vs Volume
Sounds a bit too much. If i do biab i need 26l for 20 l batch, with 4kg of grain. But it depends on your boil off rate. I boil with lid on as there is a hole in it with a ducting going out the window. My boil off rate is 2.4 litres per 60 mins. Did you use biab profile from mash profiles?
Re: Headspace vs Volume
yes , medium body ?

Biab Medium body or Medium body?D4nny74 wrote:yes , medium body ?
What is your boil off? Do you intend to boil for 60 mins?
Re: Headspace vs Volume
Ive put Biab medium body and the kit says 90 min boil , am having a total brain fart
Re: Headspace vs Volume
Well if kit says 90 mins then it should be fine I guess. What are you brewing?
If i would do 90 mins my tot mash water would be 28l so not far off. Have you accounted for a deadspace in your boiler?ANd what is your boil off again?

pm’d you mate
Re: Headspace vs Volume
Might be a bit late but 34 litres sounds about right. BIABacus is giving me the same sort of figure for a 19ltr volume into fermentor.D4nny74 wrote:OK last topic before I do this first BIAB tomorrow ,

Once you've done a few batches you'll be able to customise it to your setup to adjust for boil off, kettle loss, shrinkage etc.
Blimey I boil off 5.4 litres for a 60 minute boil, so lose about 8 litres over a 90 min boil.Ren wrote:Sounds a bit too much. If i do biab i need 26l for 20 l batch, with 4kg of grain.
