False bottom
False bottom
Hi all, do you use a false bottom in your pans? Have you any recommendations suitable for a 40lt 380mm diameter pan? I've been brewing without and I've not burnt my bag (yet), I'd like to keep it that way. I was thinking of a wire cooling rack or pizza tray but I wondered if these would be suitable.
TIA
TIA
Re: False bottom
had a brewbuilder custom cut one in mine, was nice but a slightly more expensive option
Re: False bottom
I don't have a false bottom or rack or anything to protect my bag. I have never burnt it. But that's probably because I have never switched the power on while the bag is in the pot.

Sounds great, but unfortunately I have to go for the extremely less expensive option. I have found a collapsible stainless veg steamer in the cupboard which is too small on its own but will serve as a base for a colander and should do the trick just in case I need to add any extra heat during the mash.

Re: False bottom
If this is just to keep a BIAB bag from touching the element a pizza tray with ss bolts is sturdy and won't fall apart with use. Less than a tenner for sure

Re: False bottom
That's really nice.

Ha!
Brilliant design.
Why don`t you just turn the Pizza Tray upside with no bolts involved?

Needed to cover elements so needed ~60mm clearance. Keeps the grain weight off the elements tooWalesAles wrote:Ha!![]()

Re: False bottom
imho perhaps spend a little less on insulation and rely on heat retention to maintain the mash temps, actively heating during the mash without some sort of liquor recirculation to move the heat applied throughout the grain could risk denaturing the grain in the bag bottom and have an adverse effect.

My pot was a 50L so has a 40cm diameter. The tray had about 1cm of space between it and the pot wall http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NON-STICK-PIZ ... 35f07b057fTheSumOfAllBeers wrote:Link to the product? Looking for something similar myself, except for a 45cm wide kettle
Re: False bottom
I got a pizza tray from Wilkos £2, some stainless steel nuts and bolts from eBay total about £7 to use in my 50 litres pot. Works great and keeps the bag from getting burnt.

I used my wifes cake cooling tray works grate and only cost £ 2.50 from wilkos
