Lots of foam and not clear!

Post by Slaphead » Thu Jun 12, 2014 5:19 pm

My first brew using Muntons Gold Bitter. Using Fischer bottles. When the first fermentation stopped I bottled my beer using enhancer instead of sugar. This was 6 weeks ago, when I tried one it was like opening champagne but sadly the beer was opaque.Am I being impatient?

Sounds like the fermentation hadn't stopped, or you put too much enhancer in when you primed the bottles. 6 weeks should be long enough to have something drinkable.

Thanks for the replies. I reckon I have overprimed. Got a big stein(?) glass, so I can pour a bottle in there let it settle down and drink the soup. Think I will use sugar next time!

How did you test the fermentation had stopped. It is most likely it hadn't finished fermenting especially if you followed the instructions that say 5 - 7 days.

The reason it is cloudy is as you open the bottle due to the over carbonation the release of pressure disturbs the yeast which has settled on the bottom of the bottle.
