CO2 in pressure barrel

Post by Fozzy Beer » Wed Jun 18, 2014 8:42 am

Upto now have only used bottles

If I use plastic barrel and say draw at rate of 5L (10 bottles) per week, how many/how often should I top up with CO2?

1 8g bulb per 500ml draw/1 per day opening?

If I barrel stout would N2 bulbs make a difference to the head?

ill be honest with you, i use 70-80g of sugar in 23 litre to prime my cheapo keg and very rarely need to inject it with the co2 bulb. i think ive used 3 bulbs in as many years.
lifes what you make it!

If you have no leaks then with 80gr of sugar for priming you should manage to drive at least half the keg off without the need for a gas injection and on many barrels more than that. If you are finding that amount of gas is required I would say you have a leak somewhere. Storage temp does make a difference and if you draw off the half the keg in one night it could need a charge, but otherwise I've found them very easy to get on with. One tip is keep a few bottled beers handy, I reckon about 200 pints is about enough, and then just give the old PB time to plump up before pouring the next one.
