Mini-Kegs + Soda Streamer?

Post by Old Speckled Ben » Mon Apr 14, 2014 3:38 pm

Hi everyone

I'm currently using mini-kegs and a beerking 2000 CO2 tap for dispensing my delicious ales

Just wondered if there was a way to use those CO2 cans from soda streamers (mmmm, retro) with the tap to save having to buy the bulbs all the time

The bulb holder screw on to the tap, forming the seal, so I wonder if there's another fitting that can be made in a Heath Robinson way?

Thanks as always, everyone
Ben

CO2 cans?? Do you mean the sodastream cylinders? If so, yes, you can get adaptors that will feed an S30 valve.

However, they've changed the design of the cylinders recently so you can't get the old type refilled.

But the valves on the Beer King taps aren't S30, are they? So I don't know how that would work. There would also have to be a tube between the CO2 cylinder and the Beer King tap, otherwise the whole thing would be way top heavy.
Best wishes

I am always comforted to learn that I am not the only one who doesn't read questions properly. :D

LOL, yes I meant the sodastream cylinders

I might get hold of one and see if I can fabricate some kind of adapter

Cheers :)

I've been away from the forum for a little bit now, and strange that the day I come back I see this thread asking about exactly what I'm thinking about doing!

In short, yes, there's adapters available for the 60L soda stream cylinders (like the one linked in the post above this). I'm just trying to get my head around how to hook it up to the back of the tap. My tap is in some beer at the minute, with a CO2 bulb in, so haven't been able to measure the thread yet, but sure there will be away.

Soda Stream -> Adapter -> Regulator -> back of tap, and leave the valve in the tap always open is what I was thinking

would this do? add a tap and you have a propper draft beer tap from a mini keg setup

I've thought about doing that, and that would be the long term goal. I can't speak for the OP but the reason I've thought of using the existing taps is that I'm short on space at the minute, don't have a fridge for them or anything and its quite a nice self contained unit that clamps onto the top of the keg which sits nicely on my work bench!

Brilliant, it's good to know the adapters do actually exist :)

I was originally asking as the CO2 bulbs are quite expensive for how much CO2 you actually get, so getting a 60l bottle is much cheaper overall

I think it would have to be CO2 bottle > Regulator > Adapter > Beer King Tap with valve set to open

I think I'll look in to this as I can't afford to go down the corny keg route......yet ;-)

Exactly the same thought process behind mine. The pressure regulation using the beer king / party star valve is just too guess based. At the minute I try to keep it so there is just enough pressure to bring the beer out slowly, but its tedious constantly messing with the valves to do that!
