Kegerator Questions

Post by DethApostle » Tue Jul 01, 2014 1:55 pm

So the time has come for me to convert the 2nd Fridge/Freezer into a kegerator!
SWMBO has agreed, Cornies are on order, CO2 has been sourced but not collected yet, and i've suddenly ground to a halt when trying to pick taps/faucets to attach through the fridge door.

Basically it boils down to:
Are Perlicks worth the extra money and are they really that good? £130 for 3x taps/shanks/handles and shipping from the US just seems like a lot of cash!
Are there any alternatives I should seek out?
I assume I want Stainless Steel all the way through too and avoid chrome/brass?

Thanks in advance!

I'm also wondering this, am struggling to find a supplier in the UK that has the american 'faucets' with shanks.

Best I found were Draft Warehouse (via Ebay) who are based in Germany.
Cost is pretty close to Perlicks from the US and delivery seems to be slower though (figure that one?).

I have bought three of these
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product ... 86943.html
They also do one with a shorter shank for $18 I can find no difference to the ones I bought here in France that cost nearly four times as much. The only difference is that they do not have a push facility that allows you add a bit more head to the beer. In fact I will shortly be selling the French ones for half what I paid for them. If you are interested I can give you more info.

I have perlick and they are great. My main reason for going for them is that they are forward closing which means if you don't use them for a while (i try to keep drinking a weekend activity) then the beer won't crud up and jam the taps so that you rip them off when you go to try and open again. Had them now 9 months and not a single issue.

Kegerator Questions

I have the stainless Perlicks, they are great. I bought mine from www.homebrewstuff.com took about 10 days to arrive.

I chose to spend a little more after reading a few stories about the standard taps sticking open on the US forums. They seem to be the most popular.

Where did you order them from if you don't mind me asking? Need to order some myself.

Seems an awful lot of money to spend on taps without restrictors
