Technical Question about Keezer Air Circulation

Post by siphuncle » Sat Jun 28, 2014 11:04 am

I'm currently in the process of setting up a keezer, and one thing i am conscious of is avoiding temperature stratification over the height of the internal chamber.

I have purchased an AC wall plug fan designed for hydroponic systems, but I think it is just going to be too much for that small space (it shifts about 103m3/hr and is 14 watt). Aside from it being too powerful, it will draw more power than a computer fan, and might kick off more heat than a computer fan.

To counter these issues I was thinking about only running it for about 15 minutes every hour on a timer. However, I am not sure how quickly after running, the temperature will re-stratify.

Does anyone have any idea on this? Should I just bite the bullet and buy a computer fan instead? Does it actually matter that I will have a gale force wind blowing inside the keezer?

Do you need a fan?? sounds like a chest freezer with a collar to accommodate height? well sealed i hope :)

metal kegs will facilitate an efficient transfer of heat between cold source n beer, you wont be opening often? and even if you do unlike a larder fridge/freezer the cold wont just pour out when open.

and the temperature set as a target for the controller will be set pretty stable so unlike a fermenting fridge you wont be effecting any large temp changes like crash cooling from fermenting temps.

the fan in a fermenting fridge is effective in maximising the rate at which temp changes can be applied,

i dare say a fan will speed up the cooling of kegs first sat in, but by how many minutes?hours??

and as your drawing beer from the kegs bottom any stratification that may occur wont effect the temperature of beer you draw off

Saying all that a small fan or two would be beneficial in avoiding extra cold spots closer to the cooling input. but given the option no fan or the monster imho i would be tempted to try with no fan first, but thats just an opinion.

No fan works fine for me
