Kegerator build

Post by djbadger » Wed Jun 04, 2014 9:56 pm

I got hold of an ex-lab fridge which looks good for a kegerator. Its a bit narrow for two cornys so first job was to cut off the ledges that hold the shelves.
Image

Covered with thin ply and duck tape.

The top off showing the insulation and thermostat control exposed. The spec for the fridge says it works between I think it was 8-12C so not a bad range for beers. The old lid was cracked so I replaced with more thin ply.
Image

Top replaced and side with more ply screwed on and painted green to make it look nice.
Image

Had to carve a bit out of the door to make room for two more cornys.
Image

Room for a shelf of bottles on top.

My parcel from China arrived at long last.
Image

Four (one out of shot) taps with flow control

Holes drilled and one tap fitted.

Four taps in and looking good. :D

3/8" beer line attached from the inside to right angle barbs.

Really pleased so far, its been not too hard. I got one line connected to a corny of American Wheat and its working well although I was too impatient to clean the tap first  Now is the tricky bit hooking it up to the CO2 and I want to somehow fit in a counter pressure filler as well. Will post a few more piccies in a day or two and more than likely a few questions. Thanks for looking :)

It's working well. Had a bunch of people round on Sunday night, the beer flowed and everyone loved the novelty of cool beer on tap. I was a bit puzzled about connecting up the gas but in the end I fixed the three-way reg to the wall and drilled three 3/8" (or a bit bigger) holes in the side of the fridge with an upward slant. The gas tubes feed in through them to the kegs and I just stuck a bit of duck tape round them to stop the cold getting out (or the warm getting in?).

I've now completed by spraying the door with 'stone-effect' paint so it looks like a slab of granite, sort of.

Taps were from here - and seem OK so far.

I bought two and am now awaiting the third. There are two different shank lengths available. Delivery usually take about 21 days
