Tap a Draft
Tap a Draft
Hi all, new to the forum,
I've made a good number off beer/lager kits now with good results using PBs and bottling.
The chore of cleaning and sterilising 40 odd bottles is getting a bit tedious so I ordered a Tap a Draft system from Wilkinsons which was delivered today. I like the idea of being able to put the 10 pint bottles in the fridge with the summer approaching.
I've got a coopers wheat beer in my FV and intend to put half in the Tap a Draft system and half in bottles.
Does any one else use Tap a Draft and what do you think of it.
Cheers
Eddie

Re: Tap a Draft
Hi Eddie
I have just that system from Wilkos and use that along with Bottling and kegging , I find the 3x 6lt kegs ideal for a brew and a few pints left into bottles . Nothing better than opening the fridge and pouring a cool pint , just today I put the one below in the fridge with the Wilko pilsner Lager in it I have done . Tip: Add some PTFE tape to the threads when putting on the caps for 2nd fermentation and store upright ish as per 2nd pic. Leave PTFE on when removing the caps after 2nd ferm and cool down period when adding your TAP system---never had a leak or bad seal doing it that way yet .....Happy brewing !

Re: Tap a Draft
Thanks Wherryman,
Do you batch prime before bottling and do you use the standard caps supplied with the kit for second fermentation. I'll definitely be using your PTFE tape tip would never have thought off that.
Cheers

Re: Tap a Draft
Hi Eddie
I just put 10.5 level teaspoons of sugar directly into the kegs and use the caps supplied for secondary ferm as you can see on the picture I had posted
Works for me ....

Re: Tap a Draft
Hi Eddie
Hope all goes well--- I leave the kegs a good week to 10 days in a warm place after adding sugar for secondary then before adding the tap a draft I leave them to stand for about 14 days in a cooler place .
It gets a little nervy when you have the tap a draft on and are then adding the 2 gas cartridges and you hear and see the bottles go hard and tight again but, once stood in the fridge for a few days , when your open the tap do so fully with glass at an angle just like in a pub , as otherwise all you get is froth as part opening/ closing froths the beer which does allow you to add a frothier head if you want,----depends on the carbonation of said beer.
let us know how you get on .

I've been using the T-A-D for years. I brew three gallon batches and two are perfect, although I usually use one and bottle the rest.
Do you have the new style with one CO2 cartridge or the older style with two?
I have the older style and you can force carb in them, it's a low level of carbonation, but it does work. I found a three liter soda bottle that has the same large opening that the 6 liter T-A-D bottle has and use that when I force carb.
I'm just here for the beer.
Re: Tap a Draft
I use the tap a draft bottles but I no longer use the taps what I've done is drill holes in the lids and added tire valves and I force crab the bottles, I just keep these for a Friday/Saturday night and finish the bottle within the weekend.
