Keezer temperature issue. I think I have frozen my beer.

Hello,

I have a new keezer set up with two cornys and a sankey. The gas cylinder and kegs are housed in a new chest freezer. While trying to sort out my foaming beer issues, I noticed the temperature of the beer that was poured measured around 14C in the glass. I thought this may be why I have a glass full of foam. So I scratched my head to try to resolve why the beer was warm. This despite my temp controller cycling around 4C, with the probe submerged in a glass full of water.

The glass was standing on the shelf where the compressor is housed, so thought of moving the probe into a water bottle placed in the top of a keg. I left the Stc set at the same and went to bed. I had placed a digital thermometer, with its probe dangling towards the bottom of the freezer, in thin air. During the night the recorded low was -6.9C, but my probe in the glass full of water read about +4C as set by the STC 1000. A towel in the bottom of the freezer to soak up spills is frozen solid.

Now instead of foam coming out of the taps, I have no flow at all! I suspect the beer around the dip tube at the bottom of the keg is frozen. The Sanke is blowing out foam as usual!

I used to think bottling was a chore and dreamed of popping into the garage to pour a lovely fizzy cold one. It's turned into a nightmare. The bottling seems like a walk in the park - at least I got good, consistent results.

I hope one day I'll look back and think what was all the fuss about, but I'm really getting very despondent about the investment in time and money for the frustrating return.

Do I need to set up the computer fan, recirculating air thing?

By the way, I'm going to get thinner pipe to combat my foam problem, if you've seen my other post.

Please help anyone.

14C is not far off perfect temp, I like 12C. Foam is probably over-carbonation or your choice of nozzle or you may need to lengthen the beer line to drop the pressure a bit between keg and tap.

Others disagree but I get best results with the temp probe in free air.

I leave my temp probe in free air. Also set the compressor delay to it's longest setting. As long as you are not in and out of the fridge/freezer all the time it shouldn't cycle too much.
